I have over 25 years of experience as an executive leadership coach, organizational effectiveness consultant, and career counselor working with organizations ranging from global manufacturing, wireless communications, and computer technology companies to life science start-ups and governmental agencies. In recent years my work has been focused on executive leadership coaching, including a large number of clients located in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
A sampling of recent coaching engagements include:
- The CEO of a telecommunication company who was new to the industry and who needed to build trust with key leaders and to navigate organizational politics in a highly hostile environment.
- The Senior Director at a biotechnology company who needed to transition from a formerly technical/scientific role into a senior managerial role.
- The V.P. of Clinical Operations & Regulatory Affairs at a rapidly growing biomedical firm who needed to expand strategic leadership skills to keep pace with organizational expansion.
My in-depth knowledge of human behavior and organizational dynamics, complemented by a gift for intuitive listening, thoughtful questioning and non-judgmental evaluation, ably equip me to assist you in achieving your leadership and career objectives.
My educational background includes a Masters Degree in Applied Behavioral Science from Bastyr University/Leadership Institute of Seattle and a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. I also am certified in the workplace application of Alternative Dispute Resolution interventions and Emotional Intelligence education.
Key Principles of My Practice
It takes more than intellectual horsepower to be successful in life
It’s not enough to be smart and work hard. Those are “price of admission” qualities that, while important, don’t necessarily guarantee success. Lasting success is built on an inner foundation of optimism, confidence and resilience, and is achieved by skillfully managing your interpersonal relationships in the workplace.
There are many paths to the same end
You are unique – both as an individual and as a leader – and the route toward addressing the business challenges you face must be uniquely your own. I do not believe in “one size fits all” solutions.
The responsibility for doing the work rests with you
I will not tell you what to do or what to think. That’s your job. What I will do is listen and observe, ask probing questions, assess your strengths and growth opportunities, help you see things from a fresh perspective, deliver honest feedback and suggest alternative courses of action. Armed with that knowledge, I will support you in creating a vision and taking the necessary actions to achieve your desired objectives.
The Story Behind the Heron
I am often asked by friends and clients how I came to select the Heron as the name and symbol of my company. It was a very deliberate decision on my part and not simply an attempt to come up with a unique and interesting title.
The Heron always has held special meaning for me, and over the years I have filled my home with their images in paintings and other art pieces. With their elegant silhouette as they majestically soar in flight, they impart a sense of quiet strength, integrity, grace, and wisdom. These are qualities I hold in high regard, and I make a conscious effort to integrate them into my life and the work I do with my clients.
